STATE HOUSE – Legislation to move the date by which school districts must notify teachers of potential layoffs will be heard by the Senate Labor Committee this Wednesday, Feb. 15, at around 4:30 p.m. in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House.
The legislation (2012-S 2158), sponsored by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Newport, Little Compton, Tiverton) would move the date from March 1 to June 1. The legislation is aimed at preventing schools from having to issue as many unnecessary layoff notices to teachers due to budget uncertainties.
