Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell believes he is now a stronger person after scoring on his return from an 18-month injury lay-off.
The former Manchester United star grabbed the equaliser against Middlesbrough in their 1-1 draw in the FA Cup fourth round.
And after a testing time off the pitch with knee problems he is looking to comeback as better player and won’t let his injuries play on his mind as he looks to recapture his pre-injury form.
“I’ve been out for a long time as everyone knows and it was quite emotional out there to actually get on the pitch and score,” said Campbell.
“When you’ve been out for such a long time the last few weeks are always the hardest, when you feel like you’re ready to go out there and play but you’re being held back a little bit but it’s all worth it for moments like that on the pitch.
“You can’t let that creep into your mind otherwise it will affect your performance, you’re not going to get back to where you were because I never had any fear before I did it, I’ve got to get back to that now.
“When you first wake up from the operation it’s mentally very tough but it makes me a stronger person now than I was back then and hopefully I can come back as the same player if not better.”
